Maria Ray, LMSW

Maria received her MSW from University of Maryland Baltimore where she concentrated in clinical social work with a specialization in children and families. As an LMSW, Maria provides an empathetic and hopeful approach to therapy using a variety of modalities that she individualizes with each child, adult, or family based on their needs and goals. Some of these approaches include art therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and family therapy. With children Maria often incorporates some type of creative materials or activity, so therapy is developmentally appropriate and engaging. However, with all individuals Maria gives special attention to how family dynamics, patterns, and relationships impact them because she believes relationships are a powerful influence—whether for pain or for healing. Maria also seeks to build a strong and authentic therapeutic relationship with each person, where she respects the individual’s expertise over their own life, promotes inner healing, and empowers them to reach their full potential. With experience working in cross-cultural settings, Maria welcomes people from all different backgrounds and religious belief systems and welcomes each person to explore these facets of their lives from a strengths-based and non-judgmental perspective. Maria looks forward to working with new individuals wherever they are in their journey.
