Maya Jefferson, LCSW-C

Maya Jefferson, LCSW-C is a mental health therapist who specializes in eating disorders and disordered eating, body image concerns, as well as depression and anxiety symptoms. She graduated from Columbia University School of Social Work with the hope to provide awareness and education about the ways in which eating disorders present within various populations and joining the fight against mental health stigma. She uses approaches that try to best understand the catalyst of a behavior, identifying the thoughts and emotions that led to such coping mechanisms and the perspective that behaviors can then be changed. Her preferred therapy modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and emotion focused family work. 

 

Maya is nearing completion of the requirements to obtain her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) certification. Her goal remains to provide support for clients and their families navigating the challenges of eating disorders and the common underlying or correlating mood disruptions. She understands that asking for help is often the hardest step but the most important and subsequently rewarding aspect of healing and choosing recovery. She is looking forward to working with you!
